The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in studio arts degree offers a liberal arts approach to the art major that is academically well-rounded. It is especially suited to the art student who has diverse interests in subjects outside of art. Although the emphasis is on studio art practice, students in the BA program also have the option of pursuing a variety of different course electives, minors or double majors outside of the USC Roski School of Fine Arts, in areas such as business, psychology, foreign languages or film. Depending on the complexity of your second major or minor, your time to graduation may be extended.
Approximately 11 courses in studio art are required for the BA, including three required foundation courses in drawing, sculpture and design. All art majors are also required to take two art history and three art theory and criticism courses. University requirements include six general education courses, three courses in a foreign language (foreign language can be waived with a test), two writing courses, and one diversity course. There is no math requirement for the degree. A grade of C or higher is required in all major courses. The BA program allows about 4-5 more courses to be chosen as electives from any area in the university outside of art.
