STATION

Los Angeles, CA 90007
Reception: Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 9–10 pm
Ryan Garrett (MFA \'11) produces films, videos, photographs, drawings, and texts, which focus on the psychological and philosophical implications of historical representations on contemporary experience. For the inaugural exhibition at STATION, “Causes & Errors” presents two distinct though related projects; a two-part book project entitled of the Relative Frequency of Occurrence of the Causes of Breaking Plate Glass Windows & Antisocial Behavior in Warwickshire, England, and The Council, 15 hand-sculpted busts representing the members of the Los Angeles City Council. Through material investment and translation, “Causes & Errors” attempts to rework various historical representations of society and its leaders, from political press photographs and satirical caricatures to online mug shots and actuary tables, in order to interrupt the alienating force of these political, legal, and economic abstractions.
Gallery hours: Mon–Thurs, 9 am–10 pm; Fri–Sun 10 am–6 pm
