301 Advanced Drawing 4 Fall, Spring, Summer 101a, 101b, 201a, 201b

Advanced Drawing will endeavor to give breadth and extension to a definition of drawing. Class objectives include: to question the nature and development of each student's conceptual, perceptual and processes relative to drawing; to continue to identify and develop skills and perception relative to personal imagery; to explore changes in attitude about historical drawing; and to investigate the direction of your expression atypical to last semester's work.

Throughout the semester, the class will investigate the potential for drawing as visual thinking, focusing on each individual student's relationship to the drawing process. The class will be divided into a series of special topics that will be introduced by a slide lecture and assigned reading, followed by two weeks of research and development. This is combined with individual critiques, and concluded by a final group critique in which the assigned reading will also be discussed. Field trips to galleries and artist's studios will be mandatory. Research portfolios comprised of preliminary sketches, notes on readings and studio visits, and an image file will be collected at midterm and at the final.

This course is designed to accommodate a group dynamic, yet to be open enough for individual creative response and engagement. Within the class, given its project-oriented nature, there will be an option for each student to explore varied drawing possibilities with a series of diverse projects.
