Program Course and Masters Thesis Requirements
Master of Public Art Studies (MPAS)
The Master of Public Art Studies degree requires a minimum of 36 units including:
- 27 units of core MPAS classes
- Masters Thesis (4 units)
- Electives (5 units)
- Internship experience (70 hours)

Sample MPAS courses:
- PAS 572: History: Contemporary Art/Public Contexts
- PAS 581: Forum: The Next Public Sphere
- PAS 585: Cities and Other Territories: Public Space, the Public Realm, and Public Art
Successful completion of a MPAS thesis is required before a student is recommended for the Masters of Public Art Studies Degree. The minimum required length of this research-based thesis is 30 written pages, and must demonstrate a critical understanding of historical and contemporary issues pertaining to art in the public sphere.
Master of Public Art Studies / Master of Planning (MPAS/MPL)
This dual degree program offers an opportunity for students to engage in a cross-disciplinary track of study that combines an exploration of art in the public realm with issues in urban planning.
