Minors FAQ

- What are the requirements to become a Fine Arts minor?
We recommend students complete one class at USC Roski School of Fine Arts before applying.
Then simply fill out an application. Applications are available in Watt Hall 116 or you may download a copy from our website. http://roski.usc.edu/minors/ A portfolio is NOT required for minor applicants.

- When are the application deadlines?
October 1st during Fall semester and March 1st during Spring semester. Applications turned in after these dates will be held for review during the following semester. We will contact you once we have made a decision on your application.

- I'm not an official declared major or minor - do I need "D" clearance to register for a Fine Arts class?
Departmental authorization for certain Fine Arts classes is first given to admitted Fine Arts Majors and Minors. You can request to be put on our non-major/minor waitlist for D-clearance by calling (213) 820-1290 or by emailing us at faadvs@usc.edu. Further information can be found at http://roski.usc.edu/student_guide/

- Which class do I take first?
Look at the requirement for your specific minor. It is a good idea to start with a 100 or 200-level studio course within your intended area of study. Consult your General Catalogue or School of Fine Arts minor website http://roski.usc.edu/minors to select a course in your minor area. Please note that our classes are sequential; 100 comes before 200, level 'a' comes before 'b'. You must complete one level before moving on to the next. Sequence of courses found at http://roski.usc.edu/downloads/sequences_of_courses.pdf.

- The minor I want has changed. Which version do I pursue?
All minor applicants follow the requirements of their entry year in the USC General Catalogue. However, you may want to change your catalogue, depending on the minor program requirements. Students may follow only ONE catalogue year for both their major and minor programs. You may ask your major advisor about changing catalogue years.

- How many Fine Arts courses can I take?
You may take a maximum of 20 units of Fine Arts courses as a non-minor or non-major.

- Who do I speak with if I have more questions?
Direct questions to our Fine Arts Academic Advisors, Christina Aumann (last names A-K) and Antonio Bartolome (last names L-Z). To schedule an appointment please stop by Watt Hall 116 or call 213-821-1290. You should also review our website before contacting an advisor:
