Sculpture
The sculpture facility boasts spacious indoor/outdoor studios, a well-equipped wood/metal shop with full-time technical support, a small foundry for aluminum and bronze casting and welding stations for oxy-acetylene, arc and MIG welding. Steel and welding equipment are provided for each class. The studios are accessible 24 hours, 7 days a week, and access to tools outside of class can be arranged. Introductory level courses are project-oriented and engage the students in creative solutions to three-dimensional problems using materials such as wood, cardboard, clay, plaster, and found objects.
Advanced courses focus on individual projects with students working more or less independently, with the choice of materials open. This allows the student to acquire greater technical skills while further defining his/her individual expression.
Full-time faculty include Jud Fine, area head, Jay Willis, Ann Page and Andrea Zittel, as well as adjunct faculty Drew Dominick and Fritz Haeg,
Classes in modeling and moldmaking, public art, art and technology and new genres round out the offerings of basic and advanced classes in the sculpture area.
