Preparation Steps BEFORE you Register
-
Determine what classes/requirements you need to take:
Read your STARS report to determine what requirements you need to fulfill. This is available at https://my.usc.edu/
First click on OASIS. Once there, you can access and print your STARS Report (not STARS interactive audit). - WHAT IS StARS? The primary function of STudent Academic Record System report (StARS) is to assist students with charting their academic progress. This report contains all USC course work and accepted transfer work that applies toward degree requirements, and may include writing, diversity, language, general education, major, minor, and grade point average. This very important document is used to determine whether you are on track to graduating and earning your diploma!
- Find out your Spring 2010 web registration time (Available starting Oct. 5, 2009)
Log in to myUSC, go to OASIS, then click on "Permit to Register". - Check for any Restrictions (registration holds) at OASIS. Take care of these BEFORE your appointment to register, otherwise you won't be allowed to enroll. Information on health restrictions for USC students, such as Measles Immunity and Tuberculosis Screening is available here.
- Look through the Schedule of Classes to see what classes are available to meet your requirements. (Spring 2010 Schedule is available Monday October 5, 2009.)
- All FA majors have a mandatory advisement requirement. In order to register for Fall or Spring terms, you MUST make an appointment and come in for advisement! Declared Fine Arts majors will be advised according to class standing. Check the FA Undergraduate Advisement Schedule for your allotted week.
Schedule your appointment ONLINE with Christina Aumann (last names A-K) or Antonio Bartolome (last names L-Z) at myUSC. Find and click on the Advisement tab and scroll down to schedule an appointment with us. You can schedule your appointment on-line up to two weeks in advance.
If you can't do this on your personal computer, you can use a computer at one of our campus libraries. Alternatively, you can download free Virtual Private Network (VPN) software which gives you access to student-only content. Instructions on downloading and using VPN are found at: http://www.usc.edu/its/vpn/
Please WRITE DOWN YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME AND DAY, and arrive ON TIME to WAH 116, near Watt Way and Bloom Walk. Phone ASAP if you are running late or need to cancel: Christina: 213-740-6260; Antonio: 213-740-7567.
- WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR APPOINTMENT:
A. It is mandatory for ALL students to bring a current printout of their STARS report to their advisement appointment. This is available at http://my.usc.edu First click on OASIS. Once there, you can access and print your STARS Report (not STARS interactive audit). It's usually 5-8 pages long. If you have any trouble printing, we recommend cutting & pasting the text into a Word document, and printing from there. We suggest printing in grayscale, so that all the text prints out.
B. ALSO BRING YOUR COURSE PLAN, detailing each of the courses you plan to take each semester until you graduate--either the most current plan created by your major advisor, or one you've made for yourself, including all remaining degree requirements (university, major, and minor).
C. Write down your questions in advance! During your advisement appointment, we will discuss your remaining degree requirements, classes for next semester, and other academic goals, such as pursuing a double major, minor, study abroad, and when you might graduate. Come prepared with questions and course ideas for next semester.

Obtain Fine Arts D-clearance during your Academic Advisement
Departmental authorization is required to register for some classes at USC. In the schedule of classes, after the 5-digit section number, you will see an "R" or "D." "R" means any student may register, as long as they have met the prerequisites for the course, and there are seats available in the class. "D" means you need to ask the department that offers the course for permission. D-clearance for Fine Arts courses will be given to declared FA majors DURING your advisement appointment. Departmental Clearance is not automatic: you MUST make a request. Note your D-clearance expiration date, and make sure you register by then!
If you need D-clearance for a non-Fine Arts (FA) course, you will need to contact the department which offers the course directly by phone or in person. - Useful links:

After Registration:
- Double check your registration: Are you registered for the correct classes, and for the right number of units? If you want a printed version of your enrollment, go to "Registered Course List" through OASIS (via http://my.usc.edu ). It is CRUCIAL that you confirm your registration, as problems have occurred with web registration where a student thinks they are registered for certain classes, but they are only "scheduled" for a course. Avoid problems. Double check!
- Settle your bill with the Cashier's Office. All students must register and settle their bills entirely by the settlement deadline to avoid fees. Check your balance through the USCe.pay on OASIS at http://my.usc.edu.
- For other important dates, deadlines, and the academic calendar, please refer to the "Registration Calendar" at the Schedule of Classes
-
Please contact your Academic Advisor if you have questions or trouble with anything.
Please include your full name, USC ID number, and phone number when leaving a voicemail or sending an email.Christina Aumann (last names A-K)
