In the Intermedia area, we recognize that the digital media are not independent areas of study within the arts, but that today all art practices must consider the implications of technology. In presenting the digital medium as a tool for art-making, we ask our students to consider both the new implications of the digital in art, and the relationship of the digital to long-standing explorations within the fine arts.
Courses in Intermedia offer students hands-on instruction in a wide variety of digital media, using the most advanced tools for the investigation of digital photography, interactivity, and video experimentation. Our faculty are working artists with specialties in each of these areas, who bring their experiences and skill to the classroom—both as technical advisors, and in the rigorous consideration of students' interests, development, and intellectual growth.
