Number Title Units Offered Prerequisites
FASC 436 Art and Technology 4u Fall, Spring None

The emphasis of this class is conceptual thinking, directed research, and personal investigation in the development of individual project proposals that investigate three-dimensional video capture and graphic production. Focus is on the appropriate stereoscopic or 3-D graphic technology in the communication of student projects. Production technologies include a mini stereoscopic video camera, Autodesk Maya for producing dimensional graphic objects in virtual mono and stereo formats, and Rhino 4.0 and zPrint for the production of actual 3-D objects. Display/production technology includes 3-D Rapid Prototyping, a stereoscopic projection system with silver lenticular screen, and the 360-degree immersive display Panochamber. Use of this technology will be taught in this course. Introductions to the Maya and Rhino interfaces will be assigned along with digital tutorials. 3-D graphics consultants will be made available on a workshop basis, focusing on specifically requested proposal needs. Students who have Flash & Action Script capabilities are welcome to incorporate those skills with 3-D images or to create 2-D Flash games or applications.

Although there are no prerequisites for this class, experience in Adobe Photoshop is highly recommended.
