Information for Transfer Students

Students from two-year and four-year institutions outside of USC are welcome to apply in the spring to the USC Roski School of Fine Arts for fall admittance, either at the sophomore level (minimum 30 transferable units) or at the junior level (maximum 64 transferable units). Although no studio courses are required to transfer, we do recommend that, before transferring, applicants take a balanced courseload of foundational studio courses, like those required of first-year Roski students, such as Beginning Drawing and 2-D and 3-D Design. Transfer students should also take courses that will satisfy one or more of USC's General Education requirements (Categories I, II, III, or V, here; an English writing course; or a Diversity course). Details of transferable coursework from your institution are available from the USC Office of Articulation.

Transfer students may apply for either the BFA or the BA degree program. Depending on the number of studio courses taken previously, transfer students can graduate from USC with a BA in as little as two years, or with a BFA in about four years.

Please note that before credit will be granted for studio courses taken outside of USC, students will be required to submit course-specific portfolios for faculty review. Reviews are usually scheduled during summer orientation sessions. To be prepared for these reviews, please carefully preserve all artwork created in your studio courses, and remember to save course syllabi.
