Major Programs
The School of Fine Arts' two major programs at the undergraduate level include a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA), and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in studio arts degree. Please click on "Bachelor of Arts" and "Bachelor of Fine Arts" to learn more about the specifics of each degree.  The school also offers minors in painting, drawing, two-dimensional studies, sculpture and ceramics, photography, communication arts, digital media, and 2D and 3D art for games.  See  "Academic Areas" for more information on these art disciplines.

Both undergraduate degrees typically take four years to complete and feature small classes, exciting internship and/or study abroad programs, and an opportunity to customize an art degree tailored to your specific interests. With only about 300 total art majors, you will be assured a wide choice of classes and a degree of personal attention in an intimate atmosphere that is unparalleled in any other art program.  You will also be encouraged to explore other enriching classes outside of art that only a world-class university such as USC can offer.

As a student, your personal and professional growth is stimulated and intensified by the intellectual and physical environment of the USC campus. Seminars, critiques, and personal contact with award-winning faculty, visiting artists, and scholars enrich your academic development and challenge fixed notions of art and culture. The School's Intermedia (digital) area is devoted to expanding the integration of technology in the visual arts, while maintaining a strong foundation in traditional artistic practice. This broad-based education imbues our students with an appreciation for the variety of artistic expression yet encourages them to discover their individual creative voices.

Southern California provides a fertile cultural environment for the practice and study of fine arts. In Los Angeles there are more museums and galleries per capita than anywhere else on the planet. Located next to Exposition Park, USC Roski School of Fine Arts is nearby the gardens, museums, and sports complex where the 1932 and 1984 Olympics were held and just a short shuttle bus away from the Downtown arts complex that includes the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Disney Concert Hall and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Minor Programs
USC Roski School of Fine Arts offers a number of minors as a supplement to major fields of specialization in other departments and schools. There are six intensive studio minors, each focusing on a different area within Fine Arts (see below). In addition, we offer an interdisciplinary minor in Communication Design that shares courses in advertising, marketing, and business. The School of Fine Arts also participates in two interdisciplinary minors in the School of Engineering: Multimedia and 3-D Animation.

Student Information: Fine Arts Minors:

Course requirements for each minor are based on the USC General Catalogue for the year you started taking classes at USC. Details are available at http://roski.usc.edu/minors. Our minor programs range from 24-28 units, and additional units may be required due to course prerequisites.

We recommend students complete a class at USC Roski School of Fine Arts before starting a minor program. This is to familiarize yourself with our courses, and to ensure that a Fine Arts minor is well suited for you. Consult your major Academic Advisor to make sure that you have enough elective space in your academic program for a minor. It is also best to meet with a Fine Arts Academic Advisor before beginning a minor program. During this consultation, we will try to determine if you will be able to complete one of our programs. We will also discuss important information with you regarding catalogue years, the sequential nature of our classes, and what course order and timeline might be most appropriate for you.

Important USC minor requirements: Students may follow only ONE catalogue year for both their major and minor program requirements. Students must take at least four courses (at least 16 units) which are unique to the minor (i.e., not required to fulfill the student's major, another minor or general education requirements). All upper-division course work required for the minor must be taken at USC. All course work for the minor must be taken for a letter grade, with a minimum grade of "C" earned in each course.

The value of creativity and visual literacy in the computer age makes the study of art relevant to almost every field today. The classes in the USC Roski School of Fine Arts are designed to provide a foundation in the theoretical concepts and practical skills crucial to many forms of visual representation. The USC Roski School of Fine Arts offers an exciting array of art courses and minors that can help you achieve your career goals, no matter what your major.
