Admission for Minors
To familiarize yourself with our courses, and to ensure that an art minor is well suited for you, we recommend that students complete a class at the Roski School of Art and Design before starting a minor program. Consult your major Academic Advisor to make sure that you have enough elective space in your academic program for a minor.
It is also best to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Roski School before beginning a minor program. During this meeting, we will try to determine if you will be able to complete one of our programs. We will also discuss important information with you regarding catalogue years, the sequential nature of our classes, and what course order and timeline might be most appropriate for you.
The deadline to apply for an art minor is October 1 during the fall semester and March 1 during the spring. Applications turned in after the deadline will be reviewed during the following semester. A portfolio of art work is not required for minor applications.
Students must take at least four courses (at least 16 units) that are unique to the minor (i.e., not required to fulfill the student's major, another minor, or general education requirements). All upper-division course work required for the minor must be taken at USC. All course work for the minor must be taken for a letter grade, with a minimum grade of "C" earned in each course.
