Sophie Stark

BIO

Sophie Stark is a sculptor from Chattanooga, Tennessee, who uses silicone, resin, and hair to create creatures and humanized objects. Inspired by horror films, religious relics, and bioarchaeology, Stark is interested in portraying the thin skin between realism and surrealism, humor and horror–particularly in the context of her own experiences and relationships. Stark’s work offers visceral experiences of the emotional body by creating relics of one’s body and character, giving physical form to their memories and the emotions she holds towards them.
