As part of the Handtmann Photography Lecture Series, Lucas Blalock will talk about the development of his work in photography work over the past decade. Blalock’s work plays with falseness and evident mechanics in photography. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, the Walker Art Center, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art amongst others. He has also made a number of artist books including Towards a Warm Math (Hassla, 2011), Windows Mirrors Tabletops (Morel, 2013), and Making Memeries (SPBH, 2016), and A Grocer’s Orgy (Primary Information, 2018).

On February 10th Blalock will be opening his first solo presentation in Los Angeles at the ICA / LA curated by Jamillah James.

The Handtmann Photography Lecture Series was established in 1999 as part of a larger endowment contribution that also established the Handtmann Prize for Photography prize and the graduate and undergraduate Photography Labs. Jan Handtmann, a Roski graduate and talented printmaker, has taken an active leadership role as a member of the school’s Board of Councilors for more than 20 years and has played a critical role in strengthening Roski’s photography program.
