I have always been fascinated with portraiture, as my greatest joy is sharing conversation and connection with other people. Creating “Mirror” is a way for me to experience and contemplate on the connection of shared vulnerability between artist and subject, and an opportunity for me to connect with my community through art. To do so, I created many portraits from life by painting or drawing each subject while they painted me simultaneously. Each portrait is displayed directly across from its pair, like a mirror. I did the project with a spectrum of people from my life, from strangers who responded to a social media post, to my closet friends and family, to the teachers and professors who have influenced my personal and intellectual development, and finally with myself.
