Roski Talk with designer

1262 Palmetto St., Los Angeles
(LA Arts District)
NOTE: This is a new date; the talk was originally scheduled for Jan 18, but postponed due to Covid-19 conditions.
Formerly one half of JUCO, Julia Johnson has established her place in both celebrity editorial and mainstream advertising photography. Raised by a disco drummer and PanAm flight attendant, you can almost draw a straight line from her upbringing in South Beach, Fl to her distinctive work with brands like Puma, Target, Virgin Airlines and Adidas. Julia studied photography at the San Francisco Art Institute where she met photographer Cody Cloud. In 2008, the duo formed the creative partnership known as JUCO. For 12 years they shot and directed for a client list that includes celebrities like Janelle Monaé, Kim Kardashian and Billie Eilish as well as Vogue, The Cut and Paper Magazine.
Now working as a solo artist, Julia’s bold visual style is characterized by bright colors, sophisticated art direction and strong geometric lines. Although she brings her impeccable eye, her sense of humor and heart to every project, collaboration is a vital part of Julia’s creative process. Her love of working alongside other creatives translates into fresh, unique results tailored to each campaign’s particular needs.
Julia lives in LA and is married to the artist and set designer Dane Johnson. Together, they enjoy tripping out on their toddler Valentine and spending time taking walks around the block.
For the wellbeing of our students and all who visit USC, and until further notice: masks are encouraged when indoors.
