Advisement for Spring 2019

Undergraduate Students

All USC Roski majors must meet with a Roski advisor before registering for Spring 2019 classes. Whenever meeting with an advisor, you should always bring a laptop or tablet to plan your classes while in the office. The most productive meetings occur when students arrive prepared and have already reviewed course offerings via the USC Schedule of Classes website.

  • Schedule your advisement with Jahtm Flores.

You will need to schedule an advisement appointment according to your class standing, which is based on the total number of units completed (USC units + transfer units). To see your class standing, go to myUSC --> OASIS --> STARS Report.

  • Senior/U4 students (>= 96), NCAA student-athletes, and others with priority registration can schedule appointments to meet with an advisor from October 3rd through October 11th.
    • NCAA student-athletes and others with priority registration, you must email your Roski advisor to schedule an appointment.

  • Senior/U4 students (>= 96 units) and Junior/U3 students (64—95.5 units) can schedule appointments to meet with an advisor from October 12th through October 23rd.

  • Junior/U3 students (64—95.5 units) and Sophomore/U2 students (32—63.5 units) can schedule appointments to meet with an advisor from October 24th through November 2nd.

  • Sophomore/U2 students (32—63.5 units) and Freshman/U1 students (0—31.5 units) can schedule appointments to meet with an advisor from November 5th through November 8th and from November 12th through November 16th. Meetings will not be scheduled on November 9th.

Each student can view their precise initial registration time via myUSC --> OASIS --> Permit to Register. It is the student’s responsibility to register for and attend an advisement appointment that occurs before they are permitted to register. If a student fails to sit for a scheduled meeting during one of the above times, they will still have to sit for a Mandatory Advisement session but must wait to meet and register for Spring 2019 classes until after their initial registration appointment time has passed.

  • Students that fail to schedule a timely meeting with a Roski advisor can schedule appointments to meet with an advisor from November 19th through November 20th.

An advisor will only lift a student's Mandatory Advisement hold after the student has sat for a scheduled session. If you are not registering for Spring 2019 classes (e.g., you are graduating at the end of the spring semester or you will be taking a leave of absence), you do not have to sit for a Mandatory Advisement session.

Online scheduling of a Mandatory Advisement appointment:

  1. Log into myUSC.
  2. Go to the Undergraduate Advisement tab.
  3. Select the time/day you are available.
    • Students with last names A – K meet with Academic Advisor Alexander Karnazes.
    • Students with last names L – Z meet with Academic Advisor Jahtm Flores.
  4. You will receive an email confirmation of your appointment.
  5. Arrive early or ON TIME to WAH 104 for your appointment. Call 213.821.1290 in advance if you need directions.
  6. If you are unable to attend your scheduled meeting, cancel your appointment in the Undergraduate Student Advisement tab and email your advisor as soon as possible.

Graduate Students

Graduate students should email advisors directly to schedule their Mandatory Advisement meeting, to be held at WAH 104 on the University Park Campus. Graduate students will not be able to register for classes until they meet with their appropriate advisor. Graduate students should meet with their appropriate advisors no later than October 10th. If a graduate student fails to meet with their advisor by this date, they may have to wait until November 26th or later to meet with their advisor and register for classes.

All Students

For the most productive advisement meeting, do the following:

  1. Write down your questions in advance.
  2. If possible, bring a list of your planned classes for Spring 2019, including course codes, section numbers, and class times.
  3. Bring a laptop or tablet.

If, without prior notice, a student fails to attend a schedule appointment, they must email their advisor to reschedule. A “No Show” student may have to wait until November 19th or later to meet with their advisor.

USC expects the Spring 2019 Schedule of Classes to be available on October 3rd at the classes.usc.eduOctober 3rd is also the day that students will be able to view their Spring 2019 initial registration times on myUSC. Again, to see these times, students should visit myUSC -> OASIS -> Permit to Register.
