Admission for Minors

We recommend that students have completed or be in-progress for a class (ART, DES, or CRIT) at the Roski School of Art and Design at the time of application. This is to familiarize yourself with our courses, and to ensure that a minor in Roski is well suited for you. Consult your major Academic Advisor to make sure that you have enough elective space in your academic program for a minor. It is can be helpful to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Roski School before beginning a minor program. During this meeting, we will try to determine if you will be able to complete one of our programs. We will also discuss important information with you regarding catalogue years, the sequential nature of our classes, and what course order and timeline might be most appropriate for you.
Things to remember:

  • Deadlines are October 1st in fall and March 1st in spring
  • Students will be notified via email 2-3 weeks after the deadline
  • No late applications will be accepted
  • A portfolio is not required for the minor

Students must take at least four courses (at least 16 units) that are unique to the minor (i.e., not required to fulfill the student’s major, another minor). All upper-division course work required for the minor must be taken at USC. All course work for the minor must be taken for a letter grade, with a minimum grade of “C” earned in each course.

A Roski academic advisor will be available during online “drop-in” Zoom sessions Monday through Wednesday and in person Thursday and Friday at the WAH Courtyard from 3:00 pm-4:00 pm (PST) during February if you have additional questions regarding the minor application and/or Roski minors. Drop-in advising is not available during fall, winter, spring, or summer breaks.  Zoom link available here
