MOCA LA Acquires Work by Sherin Guirguis

The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles recently acquired a work by USC Roski Professor Sherin Guirguis. The 2023 work, “Untitled (Bennu)” is part of a series of works inspired by Farid al-Din Affar’s 12th-centruy Sufi poem, “The Conference of the Birds (Manteg al-tayr). Guirguis channels her ancestors, personal experiences, and agency as a woman to draw parallels between Attar’s story of self-awareness and kinship, and the mythologies of ancient Egypt’s sacred birds.
