Areas of Study
The USC Roski School of Art and Design offers areas of study in 2D, 3D and 4D, as well as Design and Critical Studies. You’re free to explore across areas of study or to concentrate on one. Beyond the major areas of study, you’ll find minors in fashion design, performance art, visual narrative art and more.
2D Areas of Study
The 2D area of study includes painting and drawing, and printmaking. You’ll experiment with techniques, styles, methods and processes relative to each discipline.
3D Areas of Study
The 3D area of study introduces you to materials, techniques and ideas in ceramics, sculpture and installation art through traditional and/or experimental approaches.
4D Areas of Study
The 4D area of study gives you the technical and conceptual background to develop time-based practices in photography, video and performance art.
Areas of Study in Design
The Design Area covers disciplines such as graphic design in 2D and product design in 3D through scholarly research, rigorous investigation and cutting-edge innovation.
Areas of Study in Critical Studies
Critical Studies introduces you to art history, theory and criticism of art, design and visual culture with an emphasis on the 20th and 21st centuries.
