D-Clearance for Spring 2024

During Mandatory Advising, Roski departmental clearance requests must be submitted through the webform (links are below). Phone and email D-clearance requests will NOT be considered during this time. Requests will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis during normal business hours through December 1st.

Things to remember about Roski d-clearance:

  • Only courses with the “D” after the section number require a d-clearance request
  • You will NOT receive an email when your request is approved
  • Incorrect submissions will be ignored
  • All requests will expire on December 1st
  • You can see approved requests in your Web Reg account; under My Info–Cleared Sections

Each D-clearance will expire December 1st . If you do not register in time, a new request must be submitted via the webform. Please note: each D-clearance is specific to a single section. If you want clearance for multiple sections of the same course, you will need to submit via the appropriate webform.

Students will only be cleared for classes if space is available and if they have completed all prerequisites. Courses only require D-clearance if there is a “D” following the section number. A section with an “R” following the section number does not require D-clearance. Unnecessary and improperly submitted requests will be ignored.

D-clearance for Roski Majors and Minors for Spring 2024

The webforms are password-protected. All Roski majors and minors will be emailed the appropriate password by October 2nd. The webforms below will start accepting submission on October 2nd.

Advisors will process as many requests as possible via the webforms until, Friday, December 1st. After this date, you must email your requests to your Roski advisor. Emailed requests should include the following:

  • Student name
  • USC ID
  • Course code
  • Course title
  • Section number(s)

D-clearance for Roski Graduate Students for Spring 2024

To receive clearances, each Roski graduate student should email a list of Roski sections to Graduate Student Services, Antonio Bartolome, anbartol@usc.edu or Nazeli Hosik, hosik@usc.edu. Emailed requests should include the following:

  • Student name
  • USC ID
  • Course code
  • Course title
  • Section number(s)

A graduate student looking to enroll in a non-Roski elective that requires D-clearance should contact the department overseeing the course. As the term implies, each department is responsible for its own departmental clearances.

Graduate students must receive approval from their Program Director prior to enrolling in elective courses (applies to both Roski and non-Roski elective courses). Confirmation from the Program Director should be sent to Antonio Bartolome, anbartol@usc.edu & Nazeli Hosik, hosik@usc.edu.

Advisors will process as many requests as possible through December 1st. After this date, non-Roski students must email their requests to the appropriate Roski advisor. Emailed requests should include the following:

  • Student name

  • Course title
  • Section number(s)

D-clearance for All Students During the Add/Drop Period (First Three Weeks of Classes)

Weeks 1 and 2

  • We do our best to minimize the need for D-clearance for the majority of course options.
  • D-clearances will only be considered by Roski Student Services (in weeks 1 and 2) if a student can provide a recent email confirmation from the instructor and that there are available seats (additional instructions below).
  • Any requests resulting in a seat cap increase beyond the current established caps will first require the Roski Dean’s approval.
  • Please note that D-clearance is separate from pre-requisite waivers. If your D-clearance request involves consideration for a pre-requisite waiver, you will also need to submit a waiver request on our website, here.

Week 3

  • ALL Roski sections will be converted to require D-clearance in the 3rd week.
  • Most requests will not be approved.
  • Any D-clearance to be considered in week 3 will need both instructor and Chair’s approval (only extreme/emergency cases will be considered).
