ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
I’ve made about care, in a few different modes and mediums, for my thesis show; and I invite you to celebrate this accomplishment with me. There is a layering of process and ideas preset my practice. I’m pouring much of myself into the work in the hopes that I can provide entry points for other people look in. Maybe I am also erasing exits to keep people closer longer. It is a confusing mess where I am trying to move painting just a little bit into a different space, and hoping that my intention will be recognized. A rescuing happening in my compositions that mirror this desire. In my day to day life am searching for toys at thrift stores and estate sales, looking for the ones that seem to ask for another chance. Some of them remind me of the friendships in my life, qualities in people I admire. In the paintings I cast them in they can find vitality in still life. I’ve regretted skipping celebrations before, I didn’t walk during both high school and undergrad commencement; I didn’t feel like I was worth them. I’ve let go of that regret to become kinder. Being gifted this gallery space, this blank cube, gives me the opportunity to do something to capstone my Master’s degree. Come read what I’ve written, share space with the images I’ve authored, and together we can make this room significant.
